TOTO WOLFF LINKED TO POTENTIAL ALPINE INVESTMENT

Rumors from the United Kingdom suggest that a new business battle could be forming in Formula 1. Two of the sport’s most well-known team leaders, Toto Wolff and Christian Horner, are reportedly interested in buying a minority share in the Alpine Formula 1 team.

The situation started to gain attention after Flavio Briatore recently revealed that Otro Capital, an investment group that bought 24% of Alpine in 2023, has been in early discussions about selling its stake. Because of this possible sale, several parties may be exploring the opportunity to buy into the French team.

One of the names linked to the potential purchase is Christian Horner, who previously served as the long-time team principal of Red Bull Racing. Horner has been a central figure in Red Bull’s success over the years, and reports suggest he could be interested in expanding his involvement in Formula 1 through an ownership role.

However, Horner may not be the only high-profile figure looking at the deal. According to recent rumors, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff could also be preparing a proposal. Some reports even suggest that his bid could involve Mercedes itself, which would strengthen the connection between the German manufacturer and Alpine.

Wolff would also like to avoid Horner’s return to the sport.

This possibility has drawn attention because Alpine recently began using Mercedes power units. If Wolff or Mercedes were to acquire a stake in the team, it could deepen the technical relationship between the two organizations. Such a move might lead to closer cooperation in areas like engine development, technology sharing, and long-term strategic planning.

For now, the financial details of any potential offer remain unknown. Any deal would also require approval from the Renault Group, which still owns Alpine and would ultimately decide whether to allow a new investor to join the team.

If both Wolff and Horner truly are interested in the same stake, the situation would add another chapter to their long-running rivalry. Over the past 15 years, Mercedes and Red Bull have been at the center of some of Formula 1’s most intense championship battles, particularly during the hybrid era.
