FORMULA 2 TO RACE IN NORTH AMERICA AFTER MIDDLE EAST ROUNDS CANCELLATION
FIA Formula 2 Championship has officially announced a change to its calendar, with the addition of two new rounds in Miami International Autodrome and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. This decision follows the cancellation of the race weekends in Bahrain International Circuit and Jeddah Corniche Circuit due to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
This marks a first in the history of the championship, as Formula 2 has never raced in either Miami or Montreal before. With these two unique circuits, drivers will have to quickly adapt to tracks they are unfamiliar with. Without these replacement rounds, the series would have faced a three-month break until the traditional stop in Circuit de Monaco.
The introduction of two new and unknown circuits could reshuffle the order in the championship. With no prior experience or data, the ability of drivers and teams to adapt will be crucial. In a series where performance gaps are often very small, these new rounds could open the door to unexpected results.
While these calendar changes come during a complex geopolitical moment, they also offer an opportunity for the championship to diversify its schedule. The addition of Miami and Montreal brings a new dimension to the season and moves away from the more traditional venues usually seen on the calendar.
It is also an opportunity for Formula 2 to strengthen its presence in North America, expanding its reach on the American continent and bringing the championship to new audiences.
