PASCAL WEHRLEIN TAKES POLE IN FRONT OF HOME CROWD
Pascal Wehrlein has taken pole position for the second Berlin E-Prix of the weekend, defeating the DS Pensk driver Taylor Barnard in the final.
Qualifying for the second race of the Berlin E-Prix began with Group A under green flag conditions. After the tire warm-up phase, drivers started pushing for fast laps. Nick Cassidy quickly moved to the top, while Taylor Barnard impressed by leading early on.
Felipe Drugovich once again showed strong pace and secured a top position. However, it was a difficult session for Edoardo Mortara, who failed to set a competitive lap and was eliminated. Oliver Rowland and Dan Ticktum also struggled and finished near the bottom. In the end, Cassidy, Barnard, Drugovich, and Jean-Éric Vergne advanced to the duels.
Group B followed with a tight battle. Joel Eriksson set the early benchmark, but Zane Maloney and António Félix da Costa responded with strong laps, with da Costa going fastest. Pascal Wehrlein had a tense moment as he sat close to elimination but managed to get through. Meanwhile, drivers like Jake Dennis and Mitch Evans were knocked out. There was also talk in the paddock that some drivers may have strategically accepted lower positions. Da Costa, Eriksson, Maloney, and Wehrlein moved on to the duels.
The quarterfinals brought close head-to-head battles. Barnard defeated Drugovich, while Cassidy beat Vergne. Eriksson continued his strong performance by eliminating Maloney, and Wehrlein overcame da Costa to reach the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Barnard kept his momentum and defeated Cassidy to reach the final. On the other side, Wehrlein delivered under pressure and beat Eriksson, setting up a final duel between the young Barnard and the home favorite.
In the final, Pascal Wehrlein produced a strong lap to defeat Barnard and secure pole position. It was a special moment for Wehrlein, who claimed pole at his home E-Prix in Berlin, giving the local fans a result to celebrate.
