FIA PRESIDENT CONFIRMS PLAN TO BRING BACK V8 ENGINES IN FORMULA 1
The president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has confirmed that Formula 1 could see the return of V8 engines in the near future. According to him, this change is not just an idea, but something that will happen with time.
He explained that by 2031, the FIA will have the authority to introduce this change even without the agreement of power unit manufacturers. This means that teams and engine suppliers may not be able to block the decision if it is pushed forward.
Ben Sulayem also suggested that the new engines would rely much less on electric power compared to the current hybrid systems. Instead of the current balance between electric and combustion energy, the future engines would focus more on traditional power, bringing Formula 1 closer to its past sound and style.
The FIA president is aiming for this change to happen as early as 2030, one year before the current engine regulations fully mature. However, if manufacturers do not support the move, the FIA could wait one more year and introduce the engines anyway.
His message was very clear: the return of V8 engines is not a question of “if,” but “when.” This announcement could mark a major shift for the future of Formula 1, potentially changing the direction of the sport once again.
