MARTIN DOMINATES LE MANS SPRINT AS MARC MARQUEZ SUFFERS CRASH

Jorge Martin delivered a perfect performance to win the French Grand Prix Sprint race at Le Mans after an incredible opening lap and complete control from start to finish. The Aprilia rider looked untouchable throughout the 13-lap contest, while Francesco Bagnaia finished second and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium. However, the race was overshadowed by a heavy crash for reigning world champion Marc Marquez, who suffered a foot fracture and will miss the next Grand Prix.

The start of the Sprint completely changed the race. Starting from eighth on the grid, Martin launched brilliantly and made an aggressive move around the outside through Turn 3 before taking the lead at Turn 4. In one corner sequence, he passed teammate Bezzecchi, Bagnaia, and Marc Marquez to immediately move into first place.

Bagnaia settled into second position early on, while home favourite Fabio Quartararo climbed to fourth after a strong start in front of the French crowd. Marc Marquez, meanwhile, lost several places during the opening lap and dropped to fifth.

The Ducati rider’s problems continued during the early laps. Pedro Acosta attacked aggressively and passed Marquez, before Joan Mir also found a way through at Turn 3 on Lap 3. Suddenly, the reigning world champion had fallen to seventh place and was struggling to recover positions.

At the front, Martin quickly began building a gap. A small mistake from Bezzecchi allowed Bagnaia to move into second place, but neither rider could match Martin’s pace. The Aprilia rider steadily increased his advantage lap after lap and looked completely comfortable in the lead.

Acosta’s aggressive riding helped him move into fourth position after overtaking Quartararo, while Fabio Di Giannantonio’s race ended in disappointment. The Italian crashed at Turn 3 on Lap 5 while running down in 14th place, ending a difficult Sprint for the VR46 rider.

As the race entered its final laps, the podium positions appeared settled. Martin controlled the race with more than a one-second lead over Bagnaia, while Bezzecchi remained safely in third. Behind them, Quartararo, Mir, and Marc Marquez were involved in a close battle for fifth position.

Then came the biggest moment of the race. On the penultimate lap, Marc Marquez crashed heavily at Turn 13 after losing the front of his Ducati. The Spaniard initially managed to save the bike, but the rear suddenly stepped out and violently threw him into the air. Although Marquez was able to walk away from the accident, medical checks later confirmed a fracture to the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

The injury means the reigning world champion has been ruled out of Sunday’s Grand Prix and will travel to Madrid for surgery. Ducati also confirmed that Marquez will miss next week’s Catalan Grand Prix, while a planned shoulder operation has now been moved forward.

With the drama unfolding behind him, Martin calmly completed the final laps to secure his second Sprint victory of the season and a valuable 12 championship points for Aprilia. Bagnaia finished second to continue his recent strong form on Saturdays, while Bezzecchi completed a double podium celebration for Aprilia in third place.

Acosta crossed the line in fourth after an impressive and aggressive race, while Quartararo delighted the French fans with a hard-fought fifth place. Joan Mir finished just behind in sixth, giving Honda another encouraging result.

Ai Ogura finished seventh ahead of Alex Marquez in eighth, while Brazilian rookie Diogo Moreira secured his first Sprint point in MotoGP with a ninth-place finish, marking the best result of his young premier-class career.

Le Mans now heads into Grand Prix Sunday with major questions surrounding the championship fight after Marc Marquez’s injury, while Aprilia arrives full of confidence after Martin’s dominant Sprint victory.
