ALISHA PALMOWSKI TAKES POLE POSITION AFTER A CHAOTIC QUALIFYING SESSION

Alisha Palmowski took pole in F1 Academy at Zandvoort in an eventful qualifying that took place this morning CET time, with tricky conditions on a drying track. Several drivers went off as the track improved throughout the session.

The opening laps were marked by several mistakes and trips into the gravel, even for Alisha Palmowski. The Red Bull driver nevertheless managed to move ahead of Alba Larsen and Nina Garden at the halfway point.

The track improved lap after lap, allowing the drivers to continuously improve their lap times. With 10 minutes remaining, the first red flag was brought out following Lisa Billard’s crash. The French driver has compromised the rest of her weekend and will start from the back of the grid on a circuit where overtaking is difficult.

When the green flag came out, the drivers took advantage of the improving track conditions to switch to slick tyres. The pace increased, but the conditions remained tricky.

Rafaela Ferreira caused another red flag with five minutes remaining. The final interruption left the drivers with very little time to complete a final flying lap.

Alisha Palmowski once again managed to come out on top and secured pole position. The championship leader will start ahead of Alba Larsen and Natalia Granada.

Zoé Florescu delivered an excellent performance for her first appearance in the championship as a wildcard. She qualified in seventh place and produced a very strong result at the end of a difficult session.
