ANTONELLI WINS A THRILLING SILVERSTONE SPRINT AFTER FIGHTING HAMILTON
Kimi Antonelli won a spectacular Sprint Race at Silverstone after a close battle involving seven drivers fighting for the podium. The Mercedes driver started from second place and waited patiently before making his move on poleman Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton had a strong start and kept the lead in the opening laps, with Antonelli trying to stay close behind. The Ferrari driver defended well in front of his home crowd, but the Mercedes had better speed on the straights. On lap eight, Antonelli finally closed the gap and passed Hamilton to take first place.
After taking the lead, Antonelli controlled the race and slowly built a gap. Hamilton tried to stay close, but the Mercedes driver had the stronger pace and finished the Sprint as the winner.
Lando Norris completed the podium after a strong race. The McLaren driver resisted pressure from George Russell, who finished fourth but never looked like a serious threat for victory. Russell had a quiet race compared to his teammate and could not fight for the top positions.
Charles Leclerc recovered well after a difficult start that dropped him to seventh place. The Ferrari driver fought back and passed both Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri to finish fifth.
Verstappen looked competitive in the early stages and seemed ready to fight for the podium, but his race became harder because of tyre problems. The Red Bull driver suffered from heavy tyre wear and dropped down the order. He finished behind Leclerc, while Piastri had a difficult Sprint and could only take seventh place.
At the start, most drivers chose the medium tyre, while Liam Lawson was the only driver near the front using a different strategy. Hamilton kept first position from pole, while Antonelli tried to attack immediately. Norris made a brilliant start and moved into third place before briefly passing Antonelli, but the Mercedes driver quickly recovered.
The battle behind the leaders was intense, with Norris, Russell, Verstappen, Piastri and Leclerc constantly fighting for position. As the race continued, Antonelli focused on closing the gap to Hamilton, while the midfield battle created plenty of action.
Russell moved past Verstappen for fourth place on lap ten, and soon after, Leclerc also passed the Red Bull driver. Verstappen’s tyre issues prevented him from fighting back.
In the final laps, the positions at the front became more stable. Antonelli continued to increase his advantage over Hamilton, while Norris managed to keep Russell behind and secure third place.
