BEZZECCHI SUFFERS BROKEN COLLARBONE AFTER QUALIFYING CRASH
Marco Bezzecchi’s difficult 2026 MotoGP season took another major setback after a heavy crash during Q2 at the German Grand Prix. The Aprilia rider suffered a displaced fracture of his left collarbone and will return to Italy for surgery, ruling him out of the rest of the Sachsenring weekend.
Bezzecchi arrived in Germany already carrying injuries from his high-speed crash at Assen two weeks earlier. During the second qualifying session, he lost the rear of his Aprilia RS-GP at Turn 7, one of the fastest corners on the Sachsenring circuit, and was thrown into the air in a highside crash at more than 130 km/h.
The Italian hit the track heavily before sliding through the gravel. After remaining on the ground for several minutes, he was able to get back on his feet and was taken to the Aprilia motorhome while holding his left arm.
Initial concerns focused on his wrist, but medical examinations at the circuit revealed a complete displaced fracture of his left collarbone. Aprilia later confirmed that the injury requires surgery to ensure a full recovery. The operation will be performed in Italy by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini, with Bezzecchi expected to return home as soon as possible.
The injury is another major blow to Bezzecchi’s championship campaign. He is now certain to leave the German Grand Prix without scoring any points, meaning he has collected only 13 points across the last four race weekends after previously losing the championship lead at Assen.
The upcoming MotoGP summer break offers some positive news, as Bezzecchi will have almost a month to recover before the championship resumes at Silverstone in early August. Even so, the latest injury makes his fight for the 2026 MotoGP title much more difficult as the second half of the season approaches.
