WEC QUALIFYING FOR THE 6 HOURS OF FUJI CANCELLED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN
Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Fuji has officially been cancelled due to heavy rain and poor visibility at Fuji Speedway. The LMGT3 session started but was quickly red-flagged after François Heriau crashed the #21 Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo at Turn 2 after appearing to aquaplane. Heriau was able to get out of the car unharmed.
With the conditions continuing to get worse, race control decided not to restart the LMGT3 session and also cancelled the Hypercar qualifying and Hyperpole sessions. Under the WEC regulations, the starting grid was therefore decided using each car’s fastest lap from the three free practice sessions.
The #36 Alpine Endurance Team will start from pole position in the Hypercar class, with Victor Martins setting the fastest time of 1:40.594 in FP2. It is the first WEC pole position for the Alpine A424 Hypercar. The #35 Alpine will start alongside it, giving the French team a front-row lockout.
The #19 Genesis Magma Racing will start third, giving Genesis its best starting position since entering the WEC in 2026. The #007 Aston Martin was originally set to start on the front row, but a two-place grid penalty from an incident in FP3 drops it to fourth. The #17 Genesis will therefore start fifth.
Toyota will have work to do in its home race. The #8 Toyota will start eighth, while the #7 car will line up 13th. Toyota has won the 6 Hours of Fuji nine times and will be looking to fight back from its starting positions during the six-hour race.
The BMW Hypercars will start further down the field, with the #15 BMW in 14th and the #20 BMW in 17th. The defending world champion Ferrari will also have both factory 499Ps outside the top 10, with the #51 starting 11th and the #50 in 16th.
In LMGT3, the #77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang will start from pole position after Ben Tuck set the fastest class time in FP2. It is Ford’s first LMGT3 pole since the 2025 Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of The Americas. The #79 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG will start second, followed by the #78 Lexus and #58 McLaren.
The championship fight will also be important in LMGT3. The #33 TF Sport Corvette and the #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari, the top two cars in the title standings, will start alongside each other on the fifth row. The Corvette will start 10th, while the Ferrari will start ninth.
