WEHRLEIN WINS HIS SECOND FORMULA E TITLE IN A DRAMATIC LONDON FINALE
Pascal Wehrlein is the 2025/26 Formula E World Champion after a dramatic final race in London. The Porsche driver finished outside the points, but the results of his championship rivals were enough to give him his second world title after his first championship in the 2023/24 season.
Taylor Barnard won the final London E-Prix for DS Penske, taking the first victory of his Formula E career. Nyck de Vries finished second for Mahindra, ahead of teammate Edoardo Mortara.
Wehrlein looked set to complete the race without major problems, but the situation changed dramatically in the closing stages. Antonio Felix da Costa, Wehrlein’s former Porsche teammate, became involved in a long battle with the German and repeatedly tried to slow him down and push him towards the barriers.
The battle became even more intense around laps 31 and 32. Da Costa made contact with Jake Dennis while trying to pass Wehrlein again. Dennis was running alongside Wehrlein when the Andretti driver touched Joel Eriksson’s Envision at the corner entry.
Eriksson spun in front of the two title contenders, with Wehrlein hitting the Envision and Dennis crashing into the wall. Both drivers were able to continue, but their cars were badly damaged and they dropped far outside the points.
For Wehrlein, however, the damage did not matter. Mitch Evans could only finish fourth, which was not enough to take the championship away from the Porsche driver.
Wehrlein therefore secured his second Formula E World Championship, matching Jean-Eric Vergne’s record of two drivers’ titles.
The German was also highly critical of Da Costa’s driving, accusing his former teammate of deliberately trying to damage his race and championship chances.
“He tried for 20 laps to ruin my race by slowing me down and pushing me towards the wall. He tried to ruin my race and my championship. I certainly won’t forget it,” Wehrlein said.
While the championship fight ended in chaos, the battle for the race win was much cleaner. Barnard managed his battery and Attack Mode perfectly in the final stages to move ahead and take his first Formula E victory.
The result also gave DS Automobiles a final win before leaving Formula E. Barnard therefore ends the GEN3 era by giving the French manufacturer a victory in its final Formula E race.
Mahindra had started the race with the entire front row after De Vries took pole position, but neither driver could convert the qualifying advantage into victory. De Vries finished second, with Mortara completing the podium.
Evans finished fourth, but his result was enough to give Jaguar the Teams’ World Championship. The British manufacturer secured its second team title after its first success in 2024.
Sébastien Buemi finished fifth in his final Formula E race, ending his career with Envision. Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne followed in sixth and seventh, while Pepe Martí finished eighth for CUPRA KIRO.
Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato completed the points-paying positions for Nissan in ninth and tenth.
Maximilian Günther finished 11th for DS Penske, while Wehrlein and Dennis eventually crossed the finish line in 14th and 18th respectively after their late incidents.
Lucas di Grassi also had an emotional final race, but his farewell ended early. The Brazilian retired after just 11 laps because of reliability problems, ending a 12-season Formula E career that included one drivers’ championship.
The London finale brings Season 12 and the GEN3 era to an end. After several seasons of close racing and plenty of controversy, Formula E will now prepare for the next generation of cars.
The GEN4 era will begin with Season 13, currently scheduled to start in Jeddah on December 18-19. The championship now enters its break before teams return to work on the new cars.
