THEOPHILE NAEL WINS FR WORLD CUP AT MACAU AFTER BRILLIANT LAST MINUTE OVERTAKE

French driver in FIA Formula 3 Théophile Nael has taken home the first place in the Circuito da Guia after leading only one corner under green flag conditions.

Freddie Slater did not have a good launch at the start and lost his lead to Mari Boya in the first lap. The Spaniard was flying throughout all the weekend.

Three drivers have crashed on the first lap, which immediately brought out the Safety Car: Kiyoshi Umegaki, Zhenrui Chi and Reza Seewooruthun.

At the restart, Freddie Slater was brave enough to quickly retake the lead from Mari Boya who tried to stay within slipstream range, but ended up being left over 2 seconds behind the Brit.

As the race progressed, a second Safety Car came out on lap 8 of 15 due to Oscar Wurz crashing into turn 3, making a weekend that was already bad even worse for the Austrian, who was not able to recover from previous sessions’ results.

The restart saw history repeat itself: Mari Boya reattacked Freddie Slater and got back to the top, but a shocking twist happened this time around.

Slater was pushing as much as possible to retake the lead from the Spaniard, and as he approached the last corner, he hit the wall, possibly affected by dirty air as well that he may have not considered.

A third Safety Car came out in the race until lap 13. Mari Boya was leading from Enzo Deligny and Theophile Nael. However, at the restart Nael took advantage of the double slipstream, and managed to overtake both cars in front of him for the lead.

With Jin Nakamura, Rashid al Dhaheri, and Tokiya Suzuki crashing, it meant that another safety car neutralised the race, giving Nael the win.

France has then taken home both single-seater series’ title this weekend. Here are the full results:
