FORMULA-E ARRIVES IN MEXICO FOR ROUND TWO

Round 2 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is just around the corner. This weekend, the series heads to Mexico City, with on-track action beginning this Friday.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez returns with a slightly revised layout. The chicane between Turns 9, 10, and 11 has been removed to encourage even better racing, turning that section into a straight following the Turn 5, 6, and 7 hairpin.

Mexico: Producing Champions Since Season 9

The Mexico City E-Prix has become a key stop on the road to the championship. The last three Formula E World Champions all won in Mexico City during their title-winning seasons.

Jake Dennis started the trend with victory in Season 9, followed by Pascal Wehrlein in Season 10. Most recently, Oliver Rowland, reigning world champion and current Mexico City E-Prix winner, claimed the win in Season 11. History suggests that this weekend’s winner could once again be a serious title contender, so keep a close eye on the results.

Working Under Tough Conditions

As is well known, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez sits 2,250 meters above sea level, creating significant challenges for both teams and drivers. Combined with the typically cooler temperatures during the weekend, bringing the tyres into their optimal operating window can be particularly difficult.

The high altitude also reduces air density, forcing teams to run maximum downforce in their setups. Adapting quickly to these demanding conditions will be crucial, and it will be fascinating to see who manages it best.

The Mexico City E-Prix marks the first on-track action of the 2026 season, and as always, fans can expect plenty of overtakes and intense wheel-to-wheel battles from the very first lap.

The Last Time Formula E Raced This Season…

The most recent Formula E outing came at the 2025 Google Cloud São Paulo E-Prix, where Jake Dennis finally broke the long-standing São Paulo curse by converting pole position into victory. It was the first time in Formula E history that a driver had won the São Paulo E-Prix from pole, though the result was anything but straightforward.

Strategic use of Attack Mode and strong track position kept the Andretti driver in contention during a race that saw multiple leaders. A late red flag, triggered by a heavy crash for Pepe Martí, set up a one-lap sprint to the finish, but Dennis held off Oliver Rowland at the restart to secure the opening win of Season 12.

The victory marked a statement return for the Season 9 champion, placing him at the top of the Drivers’ standings as the championship now moves on to Mexico City.
