SÉBASTIEN BUEMI TAKES THE 150TH POLE IN FORMULA E HISTORY
Formula E reached a significant milestone today with the 150th qualifying session in its history, an impressive achievement for a championship that has been running since 2014. Fittingly, the landmark pole position was claimed by a Season 1 veteran: Sébastien Buemi.
In the group stage, proceedings followed a familiar pattern. Jake Dennis, winner of Round 1 in São Paulo, topped Group A, ahead of Nico Müller, Taylor Barnard, and Edoardo Mortara. The main disappointment in Group A was António Félix da Costa. After completing no laps in FP2 due to brake issues, the Portuguese driver could only manage fifth place in his group.
Group B saw Buemi leading the session, with Dan Ticktum, Mitch Evans, and Oliver Rowland close behind.
It was another difficult weekend for Pepe Martí. The Spaniard finished last in his group and was handed a 60-place grid penalty. However, since he was already set to start from the back due to his dramatic incident in Brazil, the penalty will instead be served during the race.
Duels
With the duels set, Buemi began his march toward pole by defeating Rowland in the fourth quarter-final duel. Earlier, Barnard advanced past Müller, Mortara eliminated Dennis, and Evans beat Ticktum.
In the semi-finals, Barnard progressed by a razor-thin margin of just 0.020 seconds over Mortara. Buemi, meanwhile, delivered a commanding performance, beating Evans by two tenths of a second.
The final was tightly contested between Barnard and Buemi until the British driver had his lap deleted for exceeding track limits at Turn 16. That decision handed the Swiss veteran his 17th pole position in Formula E.
