FREC: SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS TO CLOSE FIRST BACK-TO-BACK OF THE SEASON
The Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) heads to Spa-Francorchamps this weekend for the third round of the season. After Zandvoort, the championship continues its back-to-back at one of the most iconic track in the world.
A weekend dominated by Wheldon at Zandvoort
The Zandvoort weekend confirmed one thing: Sebastian Wheldon is the man in form at the start of this season. The American delivered a perfect weekend by winning both races, allowing him to take the lead in the championship.
Behind him, Reno Francot continues to impress. Already a race winner in Austria, the Dutchman confirmed his consistency with a P4 in race 1 and a P3 in race 2. This consistency keeps him firmly in the championship fight for now.
Salim Hanna and Emanuele Olivieri secured their first podiums of the season during race 1 at Zandvoort.
At Spa, drivers return to a more intense format, similar to the season opener at the Red Bull Ring, featuring three races and two qualifying sessions.
All eyes will be on Sebastian Wheldon, who arrives full of confidence after his double win at Zandvoort. At PREMA, a response is expected, particularly from Kean Nakamura-Berta, who will need to bounce back to avoid losing valuable points in the championship.
Reno Francot will need to confirm his ability to keep up with the front-runners. Consistent since the start of the season, he could take advantage of the three-race format to score big points, as he already did during the opening round in Spielberg.

A legendary track
Spa-Francorchamps represents a unique challenge for drivers: long, fast, and featuring iconic corners such as Raidillon. However, the Belgian circuit is also very tricky. Overtaking should be easier than at Zandvoort, particularly with the “push-to-pass” system, although slipstreaming could play a key role in qualifying.
Between confirmation for Wheldon, a response expected from PREMA, and a tight battle with Reno Francot lurking, this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps could be crucial in this FREC season, especially with three races on the schedule.
