ANTONELLI ESCAPES GRID PENALTY AFTER LATE TRACK LIMITS INFRINGEMENT
Kimi Antonelli has received a five-second time penalty following the race for exceeding track limits during the event.
Normally, a penalty of this type would carry over to the next Grand Prix in the form of a grid drop. However, in Antonelli’s case, that did not apply because of how the race unfolded.
The Italian driver completed more than 90% of the race distance before the retiring for a battery issue. Under FIA regulations, this means the penalty remains classified as a time penalty only and does not convert into a grid drop for the following round. As a result, he will not receive any additional punishment for the Austrian Grand Prix.
This situation mirrors a similar case involving Lando Norris at the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, where a late-race penalty also did not carry over due to the percentage of race distance completed.
