ALEX MARQUEZ LEAVES GRESINI TO JOIN KTM FOR 2027

Alex Marquez will leave Gresini Racing at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season after agreeing to join KTM from 2027. The Spaniard will replace Pedro Acosta, bringing an end to one of the most successful partnerships in Gresini’s recent history.

Marquez joined Gresini Racing in 2023 after difficult spells with Honda, looking for a fresh start aboard a Ducati. The move immediately transformed his career. In his first season with the team, he returned to the podium on several occasions and became one of Ducati’s most consistent riders. Over the following years, he continued to improve, regularly fighting at the front and establishing himself as one of the strongest independent riders on the grid.

His greatest success came with Gresini, where he finally claimed the first MotoGP victories of his career. After years of coming close, Marquez broke through and became a Grand Prix winner, giving both himself and Nadia Gresini’s team some of their most memorable moments since returning to MotoGP as an independent outfit. Those victories cemented his place in the team’s history and rewarded the faith Gresini had shown in him when few expected him to become a race winner.

During his time with Gresini, Marquez also developed into a regular championship contender, proving he could consistently challenge factory teams despite racing for an independent squad. His performances helped strengthen Gresini’s reputation as one of the most competitive satellite teams in MotoGP and highlighted the team’s ability to develop riders into race winners.

From 2027, Marquez will begin a new chapter with KTM. The Austrian manufacturer sees the Spaniard as an experienced rider capable of helping lead the project into a new era, replacing Pedro Acosta in the factory line-up. Having raced for Honda and Ducati before making the switch, Marquez arrives with valuable experience from two very different MotoGP manufacturers, something KTM hopes will accelerate its development.

His departure is a significant loss for Gresini Racing. Since joining the team, Marquez has become one of its key figures, delivering race wins, podium finishes, and consistent championship challenges while helping the team remain among MotoGP’s strongest independent entries. As he prepares for a new challenge with KTM, he leaves behind a legacy as one of the riders who helped write a new chapter in Gresini Racing’s modern success story.
