THÉO POURCHAIRE JOINS OPEL FOR FORMULA E DEBUT
Théo Pourchaire will join Opel as the German manufacturer prepares to enter the FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2027 season. The French driver becomes the first confirmed driver for Opel’s new project and will be involved in the development of its GEN4 car ahead of its competitive debut.
Pourchaire is already part of the Stellantis Motorsport family through his role with Peugeot Sport in the FIA World Endurance Championship. His move to Opel will now give him the chance to return to single-seater racing after moving away from Formula 2.
The 22-year-old has been part of the Stellantis junior programme for several years and has continued to work with the group since leaving the traditional single-seater ladder. He will now take part in the development of Opel’s GEN4 machinery, working both in the simulator and on track.
The new car, known as the Opel GSE 27FE, will form the basis of the manufacturer’s Formula E programme. Pourchaire has already started providing feedback during the development process, with the team highlighting his technical input and ability to adapt to a completely new car.
The team has also been impressed by Pourchaire’s work during the early development of the project. Opel says he has been able to give clear feedback, learn quickly and remain calm while working with a completely new car and engineering group.
Pourchaire’s experience in different categories will be important as Opel prepares for its first Formula E season. Before joining the Stellantis programme, he built his career through the junior categories and became the FIA Formula 2 champion in 2023.
