MARCUS ERICSSON TO REMAIN WITH ANDRETTI FOR 2027 INDYCAR SEASON
Marcus Ericsson will remain with Andretti Global for the 2027 IndyCar season after signing a contract extension with the team. The 2022 Indianapolis 500 winner will continue to drive the No. 28 car, staying with Andretti for a fourth consecutive season.
Ericsson joined Andretti at the start of the 2024 season after several years with Chip Ganassi Racing. Although the partnership has yet to produce a race victory, the Swede has taken two runner-up finishes and a pole position with the team.
The 2026 season has been a clear improvement for Ericsson compared with his first two years at Andretti. After finishing 15th in the championship in 2024 and 20th in 2025, he currently sits ninth in the 2026 standings and has been competitive across different types of circuits.
Earlier this season, Ericsson secured the first pole position of his IndyCar career at the Arlington street race. He will continue alongside Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power, keeping Andretti’s current driver line-up together for 2027.
“I’m really excited about the contract extension. I think it’s been a good year for us. We’ve really been turning things around after last year, and we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and that’s really been paying off,” Ericsson said.
The Swede added that the team has been competitive on different types of tracks and that he wants to build on the progress made during 2026.
Andretti president Jill Gregory also highlighted the importance of keeping the same driver line-up for another season, saying that consistency has been one of the team’s priorities as it continues to improve its IndyCar programme.
Ericsson has four IndyCar victories in total, all of them coming during his time with Ganassi. His biggest success came in 2022, when he won the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500.
The extension also changes the situation surrounding Dennis Hauger. The Norwegian was previously expected to be promoted to Andretti’s IndyCar line-up in 2027 in place of Ericsson, but that plan now appears to be off the table. Hauger could therefore need to look elsewhere for a seat next season.
