BREAKING: PEDRO ACOSTA CONFIRMED AS FACTORY DUCATI RIDER
One of the biggest rider market stories in recent MotoGP history is finally official. Pedro Acosta will join the Ducati Lenovo Team for the 2027 MotoGP season, partnering Marc Márquez in an all-Spanish factory lineup that could define the sport’s next era.
The announcement comes shortly after Ducati confirmed that Marc Márquez will remain with the Italian manufacturer until the end of the 2028 season, ending months of speculation surrounding the future of the Bologna-based team. With Francesco Bagnaia leaving for Aprilia at the end of 2026, Ducati has chosen to build its future around experience and youth, pairing one of the greatest riders in MotoGP history with arguably the sport’s brightest young talent.
For Pedro Acosta, the move represents the biggest opportunity of his career so far. Since arriving in the MotoGP paddock, the Spaniard has been regarded as a future world champion. He won the Moto3 title in 2021 and the Moto2 championship in 2023 before making an immediate impact in the premier class. His aggressive riding style, fearless overtaking and ability to adapt quickly earned him comparisons with a young Marc Márquez almost from the moment he entered MotoGP.
Acosta’s rise through the ranks has been one of the fastest in modern motorcycle racing. Nicknamed “The Shark” because of his aggressive style on track, the rider from Murcia became one of the most exciting prospects the sport had seen in years. Even while riding machinery that often struggled to match Ducati’s pace, he regularly fought at the front and established himself as one of the championship’s future stars.
For Ducati, signing Acosta is a clear investment in the long term. The Italian manufacturer could have chosen several experienced riders to replace Bagnaia, but instead decided to secure a rider many believe could dominate MotoGP for the next decade. At just 22 years old, Acosta could become the centerpiece of Ducati’s project for many years to come.
The pairing instantly creates one of the strongest rider lineups in MotoGP history. Márquez brings experience, nine world titles and countless victories, while Acosta arrives with speed and the hunger to become the next dominant force in the championship.
The move also signals the beginning of a completely new era for Ducati. Since 2021, much of the manufacturer’s success was built around Francesco Bagnaia, who delivered riders’ championships in 2022 and 2023 and became one of the most successful riders in the company’s history. His departure marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
