CAMARA TAKES POLE POSITION FOR THE BRITISH FEATURE RACE
Rafael Camara will start from pole position for the Formula 2 Feature Race at Silverstone after an impressive qualifying session for Invicta Racing. The Brazilian driver was the fastest of the field and finished two tenths of a second ahead of Alex Dunne, who secured second place and will join him on the front row.
Kush Maini also showed strong pace throughout the session. The Indian driver finished third and missed second place by only one thousandth of a second. Roman Bilinski surprised many by taking fourth place and earning a spot on the second row for Sunday’s race.
Nikola Tsolov continued his good form after his recent victory in Austria. The Bulgarian qualified fifth, giving him solid starting positions for both races this weekend. He will begin the Sprint Race from sixth place because of the reversed grid and will start fifth in the Feature Race.
The qualifying session started with several drivers having lap times deleted for track limit violations. Early on, Dunne, Maini, and Camara quickly established themselves as the strongest drivers on track. Dunne initially set the pace, with Maini close behind and Camara only a short distance away in third place.
The session was more difficult for Gabriele Minì. After hitting the barriers during Free Practice, the Italian struggled to find speed in qualifying and was outside the top ten for much of the session. His problems increased when officials investigated him for an unsafe release in the pit lane.
As the final minutes arrived, Camara produced an outstanding lap of 1:39.690 to take pole position. His time was good enough to beat last year’s qualifying record and gave him his third pole position in the last four Formula 2 events.
The result is important for the championship fight. Camara is only 26 points away from the top of the standings and now has a valuable chance to reduce the gap during the Silverstone weekend. Dunne, who is only two points behind Camara in the championship, will also see the front row as a great opportunity to score heavily.
Although Minì could only qualify tenth, he will start the Sprint Race from pole position because of the reversed-grid rules. This gives him an important chance to collect points before the longer Feature Race, where he will need to fight his way through the field.
The reversed grid for the Sprint Race will then see Gabriele Minì start from pole position, giving the Italian an excellent opportunity to score important points on the title fight. Joining him on the front row will be Ritomo Miyata, while Rafael Villagómez will line up in third place on the second row of the grid once again.
Behind the leading group, Inthraphuvasak secured seventh place and will line up alongside Tsolov for the Sprint Race. Joshua Durksen and Rafael Villagomez completed the next row of the grid, while Ritomo Miyata qualified ninth and will start next to Minì. Dino Beganovic narrowly missed a place in the top ten and will begin the weekend’s races from eleventh position.
