FERRARI READY TO INTRODUCE NEW POWER UNIT UPDATE AHEAD OF AUSTRIA GP

Ferrari is preparing to bring its first major upgrade of the 2026 season to the track, with a revised version of its power unit expected to debut at the Austrian Grand Prix, according to reports from AutoRacer.

The new specification is currently awaiting final FIA homologation, which is expected in the coming days before the race weekend. Once approved, the updated engine will be used for the first time in competition by both Ferrari cars.

The upgrade is focused on improving three key areas: reliability, overall efficiency, and power delivery. Engineers in Maranello have been working to refine internal combustion performance and hybrid energy deployment in order to make the unit more consistent across different circuit conditions.

Ferrari has been pushing hard to close the performance gap to its main rivals in the hybrid era, where small differences in energy recovery and deployment can have a significant impact on lap time. This update is seen as an important step in that development process, especially as the 2026 season continues to evolve under the new regulations.

While performance gains are expected, the primary target of this first update is stability and consistency, reducing the risk of technical issues that have affected competitiveness in previous seasons. A smoother power delivery is also expected to help drivers manage tyre wear and traction out of slower corners.

Looking ahead, Ferrari is also planning a second evolution of its power unit later in the season. That next step is reportedly scheduled for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the team’s home race, where further improvements in power output and efficiency could be introduced.
