ROBIN RAIKKONEN JOINS RED BULL JUNIOR TEAM
Red Bull has confirmed that Robin Raikkonen, the 11-year-old son of 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Räikkönen, will join its driver development programme from 2027. The young Finn, known as “Ace” in karting, has already shown strong pace and racecraft at a very early stage of his career.
The announcement marks the beginning of a new chapter for Robin, who has been competing in karting since a young age. He currently sits second in the Rotax Max Challenge Italia standings, giving Red Bull another promising young driver to develop for the future.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies praised Robin’s speed, racecraft and natural talent, while also pointing to his calm approach and maturity. The team wants to help him improve step by step, without putting unnecessary pressure on his shoulders.
“We are all thrilled and excited that Robin has been chosen to further his racing path as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team,” Kimi said. He also thanked Red Bull for its support and described the programme as a strong opportunity to help his son develop his talent.
The programme has a long history of producing Formula 1 drivers. Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen are among its most successful former members, both going on to win four world championships.
Kimi Räikkönen remains one of the most famous drivers in the sport’s history. The Finn won the 2007 Formula 1 world title with Ferrari, took 21 Grand Prix victories and finished on the podium 103 times during his career. He also remains Ferrari’s most recent drivers’ world champion.
Robin’s arrival also adds another famous name to the Red Bull junior programme. However, it is still far too early to talk about Formula 1. For now, the focus will be on learning, gaining experience and enjoying the first steps of his racing career.
