FORMULA E STAYS IN CHINA FOR SHANGHAI DOUBLE-HEADER

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship stays in China this weekend for another double-header, this time in Shanghai. The Shanghai E-Prix marks Rounds 12 and 13 of the season, with the championship now reaching a decisive stage as teams and drivers fight for every point available.

After a single-header in Sanya, the Formula E double-header format returns in Shanghai with races on Saturday and Sunday. The first race of the weekend will feature PIT BOOST, adding another strategic challenge for teams and drivers.

PIT BOOST is a mandatory pit stop that gives cars a 30-second 600kW energy boost, adding 10 percent more usable energy to the battery. Drivers can only take the stop within an FIA-defined State of Charge window, usually between 40 and 60 percent, making timing and strategy crucial.

ATTACK MODE will still be available during PIT BOOST races, but with a change for Season 12. Drivers will have only one activation instead of multiple uses, increasing its strategic importance during the race.

Andretti Formula E Team has been one of the biggest surprises in recent rounds. The American team has shown strong progress, with both drivers improving their results and even securing a one-two finish in Sanya. However, that result was later taken away after a post-race penalty dropped Felipe Drugovich to fifth place. Andretti’s goal now is to maintain this form and possibly enter the fight for the Teams’ Championship towards the end of the season.

Sanya was also a difficult weekend for the championship contenders. None of the drivers in the top three of the standings managed to score points, keeping the title fight wide open. Shanghai could become a turning point in the season as the leading drivers battle to gain an advantage before the final rounds.

Off the track, TCS Jaguar Racing and Envision Racing announced on Wednesday, July 1, that they will continue their partnership in Formula E. Jaguar will remain the powertrain supplier for the bright green team for the coming seasons.

Meanwhile, Robert Schwartzman has been in discussions with several Formula E teams as he searches for a seat for Season 13. Sources report that Cupra Kiro and Lola Yamaha are the teams currently in contact with Schwartzman’s representatives, with Lola Yamaha looking for a replacement for the retiring Lucas di Grassi.

With the championship entering its final stages, the Shanghai double-header could prove to be one of the most important weekends of the season, both for the title contenders and for teams hoping to build momentum before the final races of the year.
