FORMULA REGIONAL EUROPE SEASON KICKS OFF AT SPIELBERG
The 2026 season of the Formula Regional European Championship begins this weekend at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Austria. A highly anticipated opening round, marked by numerous changes and an initial hierarchy that remains uncertain in the middle of the pack.
A new era with a new single-seater
This first meeting marks the beginning of a new era for the championship, with the introduction of a brand-new single-seater: the Tatuus T-326. A major change that could reshape the order, especially at the start of the season when teams are still in the learning phase.
In addition to this new car, a new weekend format is being introduced this season. In Spielberg, three races will be on the schedule, and the grid for Race 2 will be determined by reversing the top 12 from qualifying 1.
A hierarchy already starting to take shape
Pre-season testing has still provided some indications: Kean Nakamura Berta is emerging as the main favorite heading into the championship opener.
Behind him, the R-ace GP team looks particularly strong and could be a frontrunner this season, notably with Emanuele Olivieri and Rashid Al Dhaheri.
Alex Munoz, a rookie to watch
In addition to Kean Nakamura Berta and Emanuele Olivieri, Alex Munoz is a rookie to watch this season. The young French driver arrives as the 2025 French F4 champion.
Without having driven over the winter, he will need to adapt quickly to the new car and his new team. He could well fight for big points, or even more over the course of the season.
A first weekend that promises to be exceptional
Between the new car and new drivers, this weekend in Spielberg is shaping up to be particularly exciting, especially in qualifying with track limits always proving tricky.
