MOTOGP RETURNS TO BRNO AS ALEX MARQUEZ IS BACK TO ACTION
MotoGP heads to Brno for Round 9 of the 2026 season, with Marc Marquez arriving as the rider everyone is watching. After returning to winning form at Balaton, where he fought off a strong challenge from Pedro Acosta, the Ducati rider showed once again why he remains one of the favorites for the championship. Marquez also enjoyed success at Brno last season, winning both races at the Czech circuit.
However, victory may not come easily this weekend. Acosta was highly competitive at Brno in 2025 and came very close to defeating Marquez in the Sprint race. The KTM rider continues to improve and will be hoping to turn last year’s near-miss into a victory. With a different track and changing conditions, the battle at the front could be much closer than before.
Aprilia will be eager to bounce back after a difficult weekend in Hungary. Championship contender Marco Bezzecchi was unable to show his true pace after problems in the race, while Jorge Martin faces an extra challenge after receiving two Long Lap penalties for causing the first-corner crash at Balaton. Both riders need a strong result to stay in the fight at the top.
The crash in Hungary also affected several other riders. Fabio Di Giannantonio and Fermin Aldeguer lost valuable points after being caught in the incident, and both will be looking for redemption at Brno. Raul Fernandez will hope for better luck after recent disappointments, while Ai Ogura continues to impress in his second MotoGP season and aims to move even closer to the podium positions.
Another important storyline this weekend is the return of Alex Marquez. The Gresini rider has been out since his frightening crash at the Barcelona-Catalunya round, where he suffered a fractured right collarbone and a fracture to the C7 vertebra in his neck.
After weeks of recovery, Marquez has now received medical clearance to take part in Friday’s FP1 session at Brno. However, he will need to undergo another medical assessment after the session before being cleared for the remainder of the weekend. While his participation beyond FP1 is not yet guaranteed, all signs suggest the Spaniard is on track to make a full return to racing.
Francesco Bagnaia arrives in Czechia enjoying a solid run of results. The Ducati rider has consistently scored strong points in recent races and appears to be regaining confidence. He secured pole position at Brno last year and will be aiming to challenge for victory this time around.
Honda also has reasons to feel positive. Luca Marini was the leading Honda rider at Balaton after finishing fifth and showed good race pace throughout the weekend. Rookie Diogo Moreira continues to adapt well to MotoGP and is gaining experience with every race. Brno will offer him another opportunity to keep improving.
Yamaha showed signs of progress in Hungary. Jack Miller delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, while Toprak Razgatlioglu finished close to the top ten. Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins will be hoping for stronger results this weekend as Yamaha continues developing its V4-powered machine.
Elsewhere, Joan Mir is searching for a clean race after another difficult weekend ended in a crash. Enea Bastianini will also want to avoid the penalties and incidents that affected his race in Hungary. Franco Morbidelli is still searching for better pace, while Maverick Vinales continues his return from injury and is gradually getting stronger.
Brad Binder heads to Brno hoping the circuit can help him rediscover his best form. The KTM rider has fond memories of the track, having claimed his famous rookie victory there in 2020. A return to Czechia could provide the boost he needs after a challenging start to the season.
With several riders carrying momentum and others looking to recover from setbacks, Brno promises another important chapter in the 2026 MotoGP season. The historic circuit is back on the calendar, and the battle for victories and championship points is set to continue in front of passionate Czech fans.
