PEUGEOT TAKES HYPERCAR POLE AT SPA IN DRAMATIC WEC QUALIFYING

The FIA World Endurance Championship qualifying session at Spa delivered a dramatic day of action, with intense battles in both LMGT3 and Hypercar categories before Peugeot secured pole position in the top class.

In LMGT3 qualifying, teams fought for a place in Hyperpole during a short 15-minute session that determined the top 10. Lexus showed strong pace throughout the day, with competitive laps from Akkodis ASP drivers, while Aston Martin also remained in the fight. After a close Hyperpole session, the Lexus #78 ultimately secured pole position in LMGT3, finishing just 0.19 seconds ahead of the Aston Martin #27.

Attention then turned to the Hypercar session, where early drama struck after a Peugeot car spun at Eau Rouge but avoided damage. The pace quickly intensified as BMW, Ferrari, Alpine, Cadillac, and Peugeot all moved to the top of the timing sheets at different moments.

Dries Vanthoor briefly led for BMW with a strong lap, before Antonio Fuoco and Robert Kubica pushed Ferrari into contention. However, it was Alpine that looked especially strong in the final stages of the session, with Charles Milesi setting a benchmark time of 2:00.808 and putting the team at the top.

The Hyperpole shootout brought even more tension. Milesi initially held provisional pole, but Malthe Jakobsen responded with a superb lap in the Peugeot #94, setting a time of 2:00.653. Will Stevens in the Cadillac #12 also came close, but ultimately could not match the Peugeot’s pace.

At the end of the session, Peugeot Sport claimed a standout pole position in the Hypercar class for the 6 Hours of Spa, thanks to Jakobsen’s impressive performance.

Ferrari, meanwhile, had a difficult session, with cars finishing outside the top positions, marking a disappointing result for the Italian manufacturer on a tough qualifying day at Spa.
