JOAN MIR JOINS GRESINI RACING IN MOTOGP FROM 2027
Joan Mir is joining Gresini Racing for the next season in MotoGP, after several difficult years in the sport.
After becoming MotoGP world champion in 2020, Mir’s career changed a lot when he moved to Honda. At first, the results were already mixed, but the following seasons became much harder because the bike was not competitive against the strongest teams. The performance gap made it difficult for him to fight regularly at the front.
In 2023, his first year with Honda, he struggled to adapt to the bike and finished far down the standings, with his best results only coming in a few races. The season was mostly about learning and trying to understand a difficult machine rather than fighting for podiums.
In 2024, the situation did not improve much. He continued to face problems with stability, grip, and consistency, and he often finished outside the points or failed to finish races. This period was also marked by multiple crashes and retirements, which made it harder to build confidence during race weekends
He then managed a few stronger results and occasionally fought closer to the top positions, including some top-ten finishes. However, the overall season still showed inconsistency, with too many DNFs and races where he could not finish. Despite that, there were moments that suggested he still had the speed to compete when everything worked well.
Recent analysis of his Honda period shows a very difficult overall stretch, with many retirements and limited finishes compared to earlier in his career. Some reports even highlight that his average finishing position across these seasons was far below what is expected from a former world champion, mainly because of the bike’s lack of performance and frequent technical or crash-related issues.
Because of this situation, the move to Gresini is seen as a fresh start. With a competitive package again, Mir is expected to try to rebuild his form and return closer to the front of MotoGP, where he has already proven in the past that he can compete at a high level.
