ANTONELLI DOMINATES CHAOTIC MONACO GP FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN
Kimi Antonelli delivered a dominant performance to win a chaotic 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, taking his fifth consecutive Formula 1 victory and strengthening his grip on the championship lead. The young Italian controlled the race from start to finish, overcoming multiple safety cars, penalties, and retirements around him to secure another commanding win.
The result marks another difficult weekend for George Russell, who again failed to score in Monaco. Antonelli’s teammate struggled with penalties and traffic throughout the race, extending the growing points gap between the two Mercedes drivers in the standings.
Lewis Hamilton finished second after a solid drive, while Isack Hadjar completed the podium in third, although the Red Bull driver remains under investigation following post-race scrutiny. Pierre Gasly secured fourth place after a consistent performance, followed by Oscar Piastri in fifth and Liam Lawson in sixth.
The race began with immediate drama as Max Verstappen suffered a mechanical issue on the grid and failed to complete the opening lap, forcing an early retirement. This opened up the front group, allowing Antonelli to take control of the race from the start and build an early gap.
Behind him, the opening stint saw strong pace from Hamilton and Leclerc, while Antonelli steadily extended his advantage to several seconds by managing his tyres and pace effectively. Further back, penalties and mechanical issues began to shape the order, with Sergio Pérez receiving a drive-through penalty for a grid infringement and Valtteri Bottas retiring early due to technical problems.
As the race progressed, strategic variations emerged as teams prepared for a one-stop strategy due to the absence of mandatory multiple pit stops. Antonelli maintained a comfortable lead throughout the first half of the race, while Hamilton and Leclerc battled for position behind him.
A key turning point came when Hamilton received a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane, affecting his chances of challenging for the lead. At the same time, Lando Norris suffered a battery failure, forcing his retirement and adding another setback to his championship campaign.
Further chaos followed as Lance Stroll crashed at the final corner, triggering a safety car. Shortly after the restart, Charles Leclerc also crashed at the same section of the track, causing significant disruption and eventually leading to a red flag after structural damage to the circuit surface was discovered.
During the restart phase, Antonelli once again held his lead confidently, while penalties for Russell and others reshuffled the midfield order. Russell ultimately dropped out of the points after failing to properly serve his penalty requirements.
Despite the chaos behind him, Antonelli remained in complete control through the final stages and crossed the line to take victory ahead of Hamilton. Gasly and Piastri followed in the top five, while Lawson, Lindblad, Albon, Ocon, and Pérez completed the top ten.
The win further extends Antonelli’s remarkable streak and reinforces his status as the man to beat in the 2026 Formula 1 season, while Monaco delivered a race defined by unpredictability, crashes, and high drama.
