MCLAREN HYPERCAR CONTINUES TESTING AT IMOLA
McLaren has continued development of its new MCL-HY Hypercar with a private test at Imola, as preparations grow for the brand’s 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship debut.
The test comes after the car’s first shakedown at Varano de Melegari earlier this month. McLaren’s Hypercar programme is now moving into a more serious development phase, with the team collecting data and giving drivers more time behind the wheel.
Four drivers are expected to share the car across the three-day test: Laurens Vanthoor, Mikkel Jensen, Richard Verschoor and Grégoire Saucy. Jensen and Saucy have already driven the car during its early running, while Vanthoor and Verschoor are part of McLaren’s wider endurance plans.
Leonardo Fornaroli had also been linked with the programme, but he is continuing his Formula 1 testing work with McLaren instead. The Italian is part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme and has already completed F1 test mileage this year.
The MCL-HY will race in the Hypercar class from 2027, marking McLaren’s return to the top category of endurance racing and to the fight for overall victory at Le Mans.
